Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW) Jobs 2026

Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KSEW) has advertised seven contract positions, published in Dawn around September 19, 2026, spanning from senior marine engineering management down to skilled trade roles on the shop floor.

The Ship Design Role Requires Genuinely Specialized Marine Systems Knowledge

If you’re not from a marine engineering background, the qualification list for Senior Deputy Manager (Ship Design) reads like an alphabet of acronyms. Here’s what they actually refer to: GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System), VDR/S-VDR (Voyage Data Recorder — essentially a ship’s “black box”), ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System, used for navigation), AIS (Automatic Identification System, for vessel tracking), and SatCom (satellite communication systems). If your experience covers installing, integrating, or troubleshooting these systems on ships, this role is built specifically for that background — not general electrical engineering experience.

  • Qualification: BE/BS in Electronics/Electrical/Electronic Engineering (PEC-accredited program) or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in marine electronics, shipbuilding, ship repair, or a related shipyard environment. Hands-on experience with marine electronic/navigation systems design, installation, integration, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting preferred. Experience with GMDSS, VDR/S-VDR, ECDIS, Marine Radar, Gyro Compass, AIS, SatCom, fibre-optic systems is an added advantage.

Technical Assistant — 1 post, Age up to 45

What a “Hot Former” Actually Does

This job title isn’t self-explanatory if you’re outside shipbuilding. A Hot Former works with heated metal plates and sections, shaping them into the curved forms needed for a ship’s hull and structural components — a specialized trade skill distinct from general welding or fabrication. If you’ve done heat-forming or plate-bending work in an industrial or shipyard setting, this title likely matches your trade even if you’ve never seen it called exactly this before.
